Chapter Four

Betty knew she’d hate herself in the morning, but right then. she couldn’t bring herself to care. All that mattered was getting closer to Drew. She wanted his hands all over her body and his hard cock plunging inside of her. She craved it more than anything.

Sure, adrenaline and wolf instincts played a role, but some of this fell into the she just plain missed having sex with him category. The rest could be sorted out later.

Or not, depending on how she felt at the time.

He deepened the kiss, and she moaned. Drew shouldn’t taste so familiar after ten years apart. Her heart raced, and she dug her fingers in the back of his shirt. Finally, after a second, she pulled back. “We can’t do this here. Not standing up against a tree. Well, I guess technically we could. But I don’t want to put on a show.”

Drew nodded. He’d never been much into voyeurism. Other things, maybe. Public nudity hadn’t been one of their kinks. Now that he was Alpha, it was out of the question. An Alpha couldn’t be seen having public sex by his pack. Or maybe he could. She was a little unclear on the finer details of these things.

How had all of this happened? Her absent mate had returned and taken over the pack. Things didn’t work out like that.

“Where should we go?” The heat in his voice brought her back to the moment.

“My place.” She shrugged. “Or I guess I should say our place. It was our home. I never moved out. It’s worse for wear, but it’s still solid.”

He took her hand in his. One of the things about Drew she had thought about at night after he’d left, when it had been too horrible for her to sleep, had been how big he was compared to her, how he had always made her feel small.

She let him lead her down the path to the home they’d shared, from which she’d spent the last ten years trying to remove every trace of him. He grabbed the door handle and twisted it, but it didn’t turn.

With a raised eyebrow, he silently asked her why she’d locked it.

“Different world. People get robbed. If you’re lucky enough to have stuff, you protect it. The lock is the very least I can do.”

She pulled the key out of her pocket and opened the door.

“People will be able to go back to leaving their doors unlocked. No one is going to be robbing on my land.”

Betty shrugged. “Might need to make some more houses first. Nowhere to live, nowhere to rob. Magnum and his crew set fire to things all the time, or they shifted and let their animals destroy the inside of homes until they were unlivable. You did notice how bad things are here, right?”

Shit. Why did she do that? Needle him? He had eyes. Of course he could see the state of things.

Drew stroked his hand down the side of her cheek while they walked into the hall.
